Stephen Uniacke

Stephen has more than 40 years’ experience in insurance law and construction law in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Stephen has extensive knowledge of insurance coverage, policies, claims, construction contracts, and disputes and litigation in the superior courts in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, and the Federal Court and High Court of Australia.

Stephen has advised and acted for insurers, self insurers, local government, statutory corporations/instrumentalities and corporations relating to personal injury, institutional abuse, professional indemnity, product and public liability, natural disasters, construction and design liability claims, construction contracts, contracts and insurances for major sporting events, works policies, asbestos and dust diseases and workers compensation.

Stephen’s expertise is far ranging and includes advice on policy wordings, acting in indemnity disputes, insurance policy drafting, drafting insurance and liability clauses in major works/infrastructure contracts, conducting litigation and negotiating settlement of claims (often with opposing counsel and senior counsel).

Stephen has conducted major litigation and claims relating to design and construction of airport runways (including Sydney Parallel Runway), airport pavements and infrastructure, mining equipment, mine development, dams, bridges, roads, specialised engineered infrastructure and other major infrastructure, buildings and assets in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
